When and why did you start Brutus Records? We moved our first steps early 2001,back then we were based in a flat in Montreal's downtown. We then moved to Italy early 2002,keeping the canadian office for Canada and USA. Shortly after, we began working with Australia and Japan, followed by South Africa. Why ? I guess because at that time we were unsatisfied by the state of street music and we were unsatisfied of our boring jobs. Is it your hobby or do you work with it fulltime? Well, this is a full time job, a normal shift is about 12/14 hours by day, we like to keep ourselves busy, if you know what I mean.. As we're not only releasing stuff, we do also help out our bands booking tours and shows, managing them with their sponsors and endorsers and so on. Whenever is possible someone of us tours with the bands. Also there's the label's website to manage, all the label promotion (online and printed) with ads and reviews and taking care about the mailorder and all the graphics. Subsidiary activities are manufacturing, licensing and distribution of bands merchandising as well as running one of the biggest subcultures and underground music releated online community and magazine called The Sledgehammer (www.the-sledgehammer.com) . We do also have our own hobbies while not working .. How many releases have you done and which one is your bestseller? We did about 14 different releases, Cd's, vinyls, split releases, limited editions and so on. We've also got several stuff in the pipeline, such as the Call To Arms and Step2Far albums. There's not a real best seller, all our stuff is selling fine, I think when you spend many hours trying to make that every single release is better than the previous (in terms of contents and artwork) people appreciate it. It's more about satisfaction than money or selling thousands of copies. Honestly everybody wanna be rich and famous, but this is not the right job.. Have you gotten any negative remarks after any release? Nope,never..we usually judge our work by the support we receive by the people. Of course constructive critics and suggestions are always welcome. How many demos go you recieve in, lets say-a month? Do you listen to them all? About five to ten by week, yes we listen all of them, and we reply to all the bands. What do you know of the Swedish punk and Oi-scene? Do you get any demos from Sweden? Of course,we 've received a lot of stuff from Sweden, but we never had the chance to release any band. You've got some really good stuff in your country, you should be proud of it! Have you got any "dreamrelease"? I think so,there are about five or six albums we all would like to releases for Oi!,punk, ska, hardcore, streetrock, skinhead reggae, punkrock. It would be impossible to mention them all .. *Your three favorite bands of alltime, all categories? In no particular order, those are the first three that spring to my mind: 4 Skins, Judge Dread, Rose Tattoo OUT NOW!!! UPCOMING! STILL HOT! 2002-02-23 |
